Jack Crawford Taylor is the founder of Enterprise-Rent-A-Car company.

He was born on April 14, 1922

His father's name is Melburne Martling Taylor and his mother's name is Dorothy Crawford Taylor.

He is a very good athlete and he enrolled in a business school(Olin B school) at Washington University in st. Louis in 1940. but he dropped out to join in US army air force voluntarily but they turned him down because he had hay fever. So, He went to the US navy during world war 2.

He piloted an f6f hellcat fighter and USS enterprise(cv-6).

He got distinguished flying crosses and the navy air medal during service in the US navy.

In 1945 Taylor married the former mary ann MacCarthy and the couple had two children one is Andrew c. Taylor and Jo Ann Taylor.


After the war, he returned to st. Louis started a delivery service company in 1948.

He took a   job at Lindburg Cadillac dealership where he eventually become a sales manager.

In 1957 he started a car leasing business at a dealership in partnership with his employer named Arthur R. Lindburg. Which required that he take a 50% pay cut and put up 25000dollars for a 25% interest in the business. Targetting people whose cars were in the shops the company started working with 7 cars.

In 1969 Taylor expanded outside st. Louis changed the company name to Enterprise because of the memory he had of the USS Enterprise aircraft carrier during world war 2.

Unlike his competitors, who focused on business rentals at airports, Taylor concentrated on the hometown market offering home pickup services which leads to the enterprise "we will pick you up" slogan.

In 1977 he divorced his wife after a long separation and in 1979 he married Susan Morrison and they got divorced in 2000.

In 1980 the rental fleet had grown to 6000 cars in 1989 the fleet grew to 50k cars and he changed the company to Enterprise-Rent-A-Car. By 1992 Enterprise surpassed 1 billion in revenues and by 19951 it reached 2 billion in Revenues. In 2007 enterprise purchased national car rental and Alamo Rent-A-Car. The current executive chairman is Taylor's son Andrew. c. Taylor and Jo Ann Taylor run the Taylor family philanthropic activities.

Taylor's family credo was "Take care of your customers and employees first and profits will follow".

He donated over 215.5 million dollars as philanthropy.

And finally, the great man died on July 2 2016 at the age of 94.
